Origin & history
Originated in the border region between England and Scotland ("the Borders") for herding sheep; widely regarded as the most intelligent dog breed in the world.
Care
Needs daily mental and physical work, otherwise behavioral problems can develop. Not for beginners.
Ideal environment
Needs a garden and ideally a job (dog sports, herding work); apartment living alone is not suitable.
Feeding
High energy needs during work/sport; match food quantity to actual activity level.
Health
Should be tested for eye disease (CEA) and hip dysplasia.
