Native to the southeastern USA, where it hunts in fields and barns; became the most commonly kept snake species in the world since the 1970s due to its calm nature and easy care.
Care
Terrarium with a secure lid (snakes are escape artists), hiding spots, and climbing options. Support shedding with adequate humidity.
Ideal environment
Needs an escape-proof terrarium with a temperature gradient. Must be housed singly, as corn snakes are solitary.
Feeding
Carnivorous: thawed mice of appropriate size, roughly every 7-10 days depending on age.
Health
Prone to shedding problems in air that's too dry and respiratory issues from the wrong temperature. Regular fecal checks with a reptile-experienced vet are recommended.
