SmallCalmIranGood with kids

Origin & history

Native to the dry rocky and steppe regions of Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan; bred since the 1970s as one of the first domesticated gecko species.

Care

Doesn't strictly need UVB light, but requires a heat mat for ground warmth. Set up the terrarium with a sand-clay mix and hiding spots.

Ideal environment

Dry terrarium with a humid "moist hide" for shedding difficulties. Can be kept alone or in female groups.

Feeding

Insectivorous: crickets, mealworms, and waxworms, dusted with a calcium and vitamin supplement.

Health

Prone to tail loss under stress and digestive issues from the wrong substrate. A plump tail indicates good nutritional condition.
