Origin & history

Emerged in late 20th-century Belgium from a spontaneous gene mutation causing the characteristic mane, then deliberately bred onward.

Care

Brush the mane 2-3 times a week or it mats. Needs daily free-range time in a safe environment.

Ideal environment

Needs a spacious, escape-proof enclosure, not just a cage. Best kept in pairs with another rabbit.

Feeding

Fresh hay as the main diet (should always be available), supplemented with fresh greens and small amounts of pellets.

Health

Prone to dental malocclusion since teeth grow continuously - always provide chew material.
