Swiss Warmblood
Elegant, athletic sport horse, the leading Swiss breeding line for show jumping and dressage.
Origin & history
Developed since the 1960s through Swiss Freiberger breeding and targeted crossbreeding with thoroughbreds and international warmblood lines to produce a competitive sport horse for tournaments.
Care
Needs intensive, regular training and professional feeding matched to performance level. Coat, mane, and hooves need careful grooming like any sport horse.
Ideal environment
Needs spacious box or open stabling with enough turnout and training facilities. Common throughout Switzerland at competition and leisure stables.
Feeding
Performance-matched feeding: high-quality roughage as the base, supplemented with concentrate feed depending on training intensity.
Health
Generally a robust sport horse breed, but like all sport horses prone to tendon and joint strain under intensive training - regular veterinary checkups are important.
