Origin & history
Originally from Siam (present-day Thailand), where it was kept in temples and at the royal court before arriving in Europe in the 19th century.
Care
Low coat care thanks to the short coat. Needs plenty of mental stimulation and interaction with people.
Ideal environment
Very social and affectionate, dislikes being left alone for long; ideal with a second pet or plenty of human company.
Feeding
Protein-rich food matched to a high activity level, regular feeding times given its outspoken voice when hungry.
Health
Prone to amyloidosis, respiratory problems, and certain cancers. Regular preventive checkups recommended.
